Rain has just fallen, or is still falling. The pavement reflects the trees, the buildings, the grey sky above - and at the centre of it all, one tree holds its gold with complete indifference to the weather.
In this oil painting, Albert Chatinyan captures a specific kind of urban autumn moment: the city quieted by rain, warm colour against a cool ground, a single figure with an umbrella moving through it all without hurry. The red-brick building to the left anchors the composition; further back, a row of trees bleeds into mist and a handful of distant figures dissolve into brushstrokes. Everything recedes except that tree.
Chatinyan works with confident, textured strokes - the foliage built up in thick impasto, the wet pavement handled in loose, reflective passages of ochre, grey, and rust. The framing of the scene is instinctive: the tree slightly off-centre, the figure placed just where the eye needs it. Nothing is overworked.
The result is an oil painting that functions both as a landscape and as a mood - the particular feeling of autumn in a city, where warmth and cold occupy the same street at the same time.
