The composition of this oil painting is built on a single idea, and Aghasi Grigoryan commits to it completely: one tree, perfectly centred, its golden crown reflected without distortion in the glassy surface of an alpine lake below. Above, snow-covered peaks rise into a pale blue sky. The world above and the world below are almost identical - and in that near-symmetry, the painting finds its quiet.
What makes it work is the restraint. Grigoryan limits his palette to two registers: the warm amber and deep orange of the autumn tree against the cool, unwavering blue of water, mountain, and sky. There is no middle ground, no transitional haze - just the tree standing between cold and warm, its roots anchored in a small rocky islet, its reflection stretching downward into the lake with the same clarity as the original.
The handling is precise and deliberate. This is realist oil painting in service of a specific emotional register - stillness, solitude, the kind of silence that only open water and high mountains produce together. The title earns itself: the painting is about reflection in both senses, the optical and the interior.
