In "Shoghik and Ani," Sergey Khachatryan (Serkhach) turns an ordinary courtyard moment into a study of quiet dignity. A young woman in a scarlet skirt stands at the corner of a stone-set wall, holding something close to her chest, her gaze composed and self-possessed. Beside her, a girl - younger, watchful - stands with the particular stillness of a child learning how to be still. Around them, hens move freely across the sun-warmed ground.
The setting is intimate: rough-plastered walls embedded with river stones, a weathered wooden door, a pair of milk canisters catching the afternoon light. Khachatryan renders all of it with assured, textured brushwork — the impasto surface alive with ochres, blues, and that insistent red — grounding the scene in place without making it a document of it.
This is figurative painting at its most direct. No drama, no narrative tension — just two people in a yard, and the feeling that you have interrupted something unhurried and real.
